South Africa - Country Specifics

The hunting area in South Africa is based in the heart of the Zulu Kingdom, 34km's south from a town called Pongola. The area is host to the big five as well as cheetah, hippo, crocodile and has an impressive quantity of other wildlife and a tremendous diversity of fauna and flora ranging from montane grassland to lowveld. bushveld. Within a radius of 300kms Zululand can offer you the best of two worlds. On its eastern boundry, the warm waters of the Indian Ocean gently caress its golden shores. Reaching inland to the west area incorporates the endless rolling hills and meandering valleys, grassy plains and dense bush, where the great forests of Zululand are keeping the secrets of the ancestors and hiding places in the misty mountain peaks. This all creates an atmosphere of the rich history of Zululand, which includes the fascinating culture of the people who call it home. The climate in the coastal areas of Kwazulu-Natal is subtropical. In summer, temperatures often rise above 30 degrees. Because of the typically high humidity, conditions get sultry. Precipitation is to be expected mainly from October to April and particularly in the summer months of December, January and February, when one can count on strong tropical thunderstorms almost daily in the afternoons. The winters are mild to warm, the temperatures on average are over 20 degrees, and the probability of rain is low.

Duration of the Safari
Time needed for a safari will be determined by the amount of animals wanted. Some anilmals are more difficult to hunt, and will thus need more days. Specialised hunts, like suni, red duiker and bushbuck might need up to 2 to 3 days per animal. Lion and leopard hunts require a minimum hunting time of 14 days. It is therefore important to discuss the hunt with the professional hunter, that he can guide you on the time period needed to be successful. Always remember that the success of your hunt is just as important to us as it is to you. The best hunting time is from April to October.
