Thar Hunt

Thar (Tahr) and Chamois hunts

Thar (Tahr) and Chamois can be hunted, either on the high spine of the Southern Alps or on several private properties located nearby Methven. Generally Thar and Chamois hunts are conducted for free ranging game. Access to these alpine trophies can be by walking, four-wheel drive vehicle or helicopter, thereby allowing hunters of all physical abilities the chance to take these exceptional mountain trophies.

Kimihia Safaris are New Zealand hunting guides who offer guided hunts for all big game animals currently available in the South Pacific.  Their aim is to provide serious hunters with a personalized guiding and outfitting service.

Based in Methven, just an hour by road from Christchurch International airport and on the edge of the Southern Alps, Kimihia Safaris have the ideal “base camp” for your New Zealand hunt.  Jointly owned and operated by Ben Smith and Stuart Marr, you can be sure your hunting experience will be one of the best you will find anywhere in the world.

If you need a professional hunting guide in New Zealand we personally guide for Res Stag, Wapiti, Fallow Buck, Tahr, Chamois, Feral Goat and Arapawa Ram.

These hunts are offered both free range and on High Peak game estate.  The New Zealand hunting season is generally from March through to July for deer species.  However some can be successfully hunted later.  Tahr, Chamois and Feral Goat can be hunted anytime of year, but the capes are best between late April and September.
