Hunting Seasons & Climates
In South Africa safaris can be conducted throughout the year, however the besttime for a
safari is between April and October. These months offer the most pleasant climate and suitable
hunting conditions. The average daytime temperature during the months April through
September range from 60’F to 95’F. Early mornings can be as low as 42’F, but heating up to
comfortable levels by midmorning. In South Africa the coldest months of the year are June through August.

Rifle Calibres
Some 40 different species of game can be hunted across the country. Riflle calibres will be
determined by which species are to be hunted. A medium calibre rifle such as a 270 or 7mm is suitable for smaller plains game animals,while most popular30 calibres are adequate to hunt the larger plains game animals with. If buffalo, lion, elephant or rhino are to be hunted, it is
required by law to use a minimum of a .375 calibre. Furtherrecommendations can be made by the outfitter when planning a safari.
