BROWN BEAR HUNT IN RUSSIA

The tour lasts for two weeks. The base camps are situated around twenty and forty miles inland off the coast of the Okhotsk sea, approximately 50 miles apart, one hour and twenty minutes' chopper flight from Magadan.

On the first day in the base camp our guests normally sight their rifles, familiarize themselves with the KULU staff, discuss details of the forthcoming hunt, and have a good rest before their hunting adventure. Next day in the early morning hunters with their guides set off for one of the most exciting hunts KULU Safaris is proud to offer.

The hunters and guides use snowmobiles during the entire hunt. All guides possess two machines one of which is given to the customer.

It's up to the hunter himself to choose if he wants to drive a snowmobile himself or ride on a pulled sled. The latter might influence the effectiveness though, as it reduces mobility and leaves no possibility for manoeuvering. Normally people inexperienced in driving a snowmobile get used to it within a day or two.

Two base camps are used on this hunt. Hunting takes place in between the base camps as well as around them. The hunters cover dozens of miles daily log cabines ans shacks, which were specially built to accommodate hunters, and are scattered all over the hunting area. While spike-camping the guide takes full care of his client.

Once a bear is spotted, he is carefully stalked. The magnificence of this hunt is that besides taking a trophy it gives you a good opportunity to watch bears as they wake up and start roaming around.

Periodically once in 2-3 days the hunters come back to one of the base camps to replenish the food supplies, refresh and enjoy the Russian steam sauna or hot shower.

The size of the brown bear trophies taken by our customers varies from 7 to 10 feet (from nose to tail) with the average being around eight and a half.
